The Awakening is their first limited edition — built around "Capa Marrón," an Ecuadorian hybrid wrapper leaf that stopped being grown over ten years ago. Only four bales were ever bought, and when those bales are gone, the Awakening is gone with them. Rolled at Klaas Kelner's Kelner Cigars S.A.S. in the Dominican Republic by a single pair of torcedores, then rested for two years before being released, the Awakening ships in 10-count boxes capped at 2,000 boxes worldwide — 20,000 cigars total.

Blend Information

Series: Avowed Awakening Limited Edition 2024

Vitola: Robusto Extra, 5½ x 52

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Hybrid "Capa Marrón" — last grown over a decade ago; only four bales ever existed

Binder: Ecuadorian Habano

Filler: Dominican Piloto Cubano, Criollo '98, Corojo '99, San Vicente, Cotuí; U.S. Pennsylvania

Factory: Kelner Cigars S.A.S., Dominican Republic

Aging: Two years after rolling

Strength: Medium+ / Medium-to-Full body

Format: 10-count box

Production: 2,000 boxes (20,000 cigars total)

Tasting Profile

Across three distinct thirds, the Awakening builds a layered profile that reviewers have consistently singled out as one of the most structured debut blends in recent memory.

First Third

Maple sweetness and white pepper open on the palate, settling into creamy cedar, dried tea leaves, and cashew.

Middle

Dried tea leaves and cinnamon pick up with anise, leather tack, and a sourdough note running underneath.

Final Third

Cocoa nibs, creamy cashews, coffee beans, and toasted bread carry the finish, with a mineral salinity and a soft floral note on the exhale.

Why This One Matters

The Awakening is the kind of release that doesn't come back. The Capa Marrón wrapper is a finite-supply leaf — no new crop exists and no new crop is planned. The release itself was hand-built by one pair of rollers at a factory that opened in 2023 and aged for two years before leaving the Dominican Republic.
