Enter the world of Crowned Heads
If you’re just getting into cigars but want to smoke something with personality—and not something that feels too “starter kit”—take a look at Crowned Heads. It’s a newer brand, but it’s one that’s earned a serious following without being too heavy or complicated. I’d recommend it for any guy who’s already had a flavored cigar or a Macanudo and wants to taste what real small-batch premium cigars are about.
Crowned Heads is based in Nashville, but their cigars are made in places that know tobacco—like Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. They work with top factories like My Father Cigars and Tabacalera La Alianza. These aren’t mass-produced. Everything is rolled with care and detail, and it shows in how they burn and taste.
Start with Mil Días: Creamy, Balanced, and Easygoing
The Crowned Heads Mil Días is a great place to start. It’s smooth and balanced, with a little cream, some toast, a touch of spice, but nothing overwhelming. It’s a well balance blend featuring Nicaraguan, costa rican and peruvian tobaccos with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. That wrapper adds a bit of complexity, but the overall flavor is still easygoing. It’s medium-bodied—so you’re getting something with flavor but still totally beginner-friendly if you’ve had one or two cigars before. You can find Mil Días in Robusto and Toro sizes at Tinder Box, and it’s in stock now. Check it out here for around $10.
Another solid option is the Crowned Heads Juarez. A little bolder, a bit earthier, with some cocoa and black pepper, but still smooth enough to enjoy without being hit over the head. It’s a good next-step cigar and very affordable—often under $8. That one’s also made at the Tabacalera Pichardo factory in Nicaragua. You can find it here.
My Recommendation
Start with Mil Días if you want something smooth but not boring. Go for Juarez if you’re ready to try something richer but still easy to handle. Both are well-made, burn even, and give you a proper introduction to what premium boutique cigars can be like—without needing a humidor full of experience.
