Avowed Cigars launched in February 2025, founded by Andrew Considine and Dave West — two longtime cigar retailers who spent years listening to what smokers actually wanted before crossing over to the manufacturing side. From day one they chose to work with Klaas Kelner, son of legendary Dominican blender Henke Kelner, whose own factory, Kelner Cigars S.A.S., opened in 2023.
New Dawn came out of a production visit to that factory. The Avowed team described their ideal all-day cigar to Klaas, and he answered with a single blend — not a lineup of prototypes, just one. The team fell for it immediately and named it for the moment it represented: the sun setting on one era and a new one beginning. It became one of Avowed's two inaugural regular-production lines.
The Wrapper
New Dawn is dressed in top-grade dark Ecuadorian Connecticut from A.S.P., and that leaf is aged for twice the usual time before rolling. This is not the pale, straw-colored Connecticut most smokers picture: it shows a warm caramel-to-light-brown shade with a touch of oil and a silky feel. The extended aging is what gives the cigar its rounded, creamy character without sacrificing depth.

Expect a creamy, balanced sweetness with bready and nutty depth underneath and a light floral lift. It stays smooth and free of harshness from start to finish — the kind of cigar that reveals more complexity the more attention you give it, but never demands it.
Choosing a Size
The Robusto Grande (5 x 54) is the shorter, fuller-ring option — a concentrated, creamy smoke for a morning coffee or a lunch break. The Toro (6 x 52) gives the blend more time to develop and is the pick for a longer, unhurried sitting.
Pairing Notes
Built as a sunrise-to-evening cigar, New Dawn pairs naturally with coffee or tea early in the day, and with Champagne, brandy, or Irish whiskey later on.
