The Connecticut wrapper has a reputation for being the mild, approachable end of the premium spectrum, and that reputation isn't wrong — but it isn't the whole story either. This sampler pulls four current Connecticut-wrapped blends from four different houses, each one taking the wrapper leaf in a different direction, to show what a modern Connecticut-wrapped cigar actually looks like outside of the morning-coffee cliché.

1. Tradecraft Vitruvian Toro
Our own Tradecraft blend — a 6 x 50 Toro wrapped in Grade A Ecuadorian Connecticut (grown by A.S.P.), over a Sumatra binder and a filler of Dominican Criollo '98 Seco, Corojo, Wrapper Grade Habano, and Nicaraguan Jalapa. Blended by Wiber Ventura at Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic over four months, the Vitruvian is mild-to-medium in body with sweet citrus, earth, mineral, and cream across the burn — a rebirth of the Connecticut-wrapper idea built around sweetness and balance rather than one-note mildness.
2. Avowed New Dawn Toro
A 6 x 52 Toro from Avowed Cigar Co., rolled at Klaas Kelner's Kelner Cigars S.A.S. in the Dominican Republic. Dressed in a dark Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf sourced from A.S.P. and aged for twice the usual time, over an Ecuadorian Habano binder and a filler of Dominican San Vicente, Criollo '98, and Piloto Cubano. Klaas built this one when the Avowed team described their ideal daily cigar — a mild-plus profile with buttercream icing, nougat, cedar, toasted almonds, French bread, and honeysuckle across the smoke. Built to pair with coffee, champagne, tea, brandy, or Irish whiskey.
3. Artesano Del Tobacco Viva La Vida Churchill
A 7 x 54 Churchill — the newer size added to the Viva La Vida Connecticut lineup in 2026 after customer demand. An Artesano Del Tobacco collaboration with AJ Fernandez, with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler. Medium-bodied with a surprising peppery kick for a Connecticut-wrapped cigar; the extra Churchill length draws out the wrapper's natural sweetness and stretches the finish with cream, cedar, earth, and white pepper.
4. Powstanie Connecticut Robusto
A 5 x 50 Robusto from Mike and Greg Szczepankiewicz's Polish-American boutique brand, rolled at Nica Sueño in Estelí, Nicaragua. Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over an Indonesian binder with Nicaraguan filler — the blend builds from toasted nuts, cream, and subtle sweetness through cedar, light pepper, and baking spices, closing on balanced Nicaraguan-driven earth. Proof that Connecticut-wrapped cigars don't have to be mild or forgettable.
