The Molina Ambra Smooth (X16) is a classic Bent Billiard in Italian-made smooth briar from Molina's Barasso workshop in Lombardy — part of the Ambra series, built around warm amber-hued acrylic stems, nickel spigot-style caps, and a 9mm filter chamber.
Molina sits on part of the old Rossi factory grounds in Barasso, the Lombardy district whose name refers to the water-powered mills (mulini) that once drove local industry. Molina inherited not only the premises but also the vintage machinery and traditional production methods used by Rossi — and today uses hand-selected briar from central and southern Italy to produce workhorse pipes with an excellent price-to-quality ratio.
The Ambra series takes its name from the Italian word for amber — a reference to the amber-hued acrylic stems that distinguish the line. Each Ambra pipe is capped with nickel at the stem base and shank end for a spigot-like appearance (while retaining a standard mortise-and-tenon arrangement), and the entire series is drilled for 9mm charcoal filters. Offered here in the X16 — a classic Bent Billiard with a tall bowl, forward-reaching shank, and the balanced proportions that have made the Billiard a pipe-maker's standard for over a century.
