The Legend Behind the Blend
The War Bear series is named for Wojtek — a real Syrian brown bear purchased as a cub by Polish soldiers during World War II. Wojtek grew to 490 pounds, was officially enlisted in the Polish Army with the rank of Private, and was eventually promoted to Corporal after carrying ammunition during the Battle of Monte Cassino. After the war, he was donated to the Edinburgh Zoo, where he lived until 1963 at the age of 21. Truly the stuff of legend — and a perfect name for a cigar.
